5 Best Wall Mounted Ironing Board Reviewed

Have you ever experience ironing your clothes in the bed because you have no space for a board or how messy your storage space because of a clunky ironing board? Well, I have and still haunt me of how much space it eats and how challenging it is to position myself with the board in tight spaces.

If you are in the same boat as me, the best solution is to integrate a mounted board. In this wall mount iron board review, I will tackle things to consider on buying this wonderful space-saving ironing board as an asset at home.

5.Hafele America Wall-Mounted Ironing Board

I think this is the best wall-mount ironing board out there and a great addition to your laundry room. The Hafele America ironing board is very simple but durable and flexible. The whole ironing board is made of steel and coated with epoxy.

Also, the ironing board is foldable and rests towards the wall. Meanwhile, the board cover is made of heat-resistant cotton and has gray stripes pattern.

The swivel connection provides ease of workability and can rotate up to 180 degrees horizontally. The position of the board can be locked even at an inclined elevation.

As for the specification of the iron board, I have provided the dimensions on the table below.

Dimensions
Ironing Board37-3/8” L x 11-7/8” W
At Rest20-5/8″ H x 12-7/8″ W x 4-3/4″ D
With Wall cover23-7/16″ H x 14-3/8″ W x 5-1/2″ D
Weight22.3 pounds

The downsides of the product are its weight and no iron rest. The product is too heavy and requires strong end support. There is no iron holder but you can either get used to placing your iron upward when resting or buy a separate wall mounted holder for convenience purposes.

Also, there is no external wall cover included with the product. But the manufacturer offers an optional wall cover made of polystyrene.

Installation

The major concern in the installation is the weight of the ironing board. There is a possibility that the board can overturn the wall due to its weight. Also, a 16″ standard stud might not be sufficient because the board is just too heavy.

Therefore, a strong and sturdy support is required to handle the weight. Some of the suggestions are to put a 1×8′ oak board between studs as the main template and replace the bolts with the correct length.

It is one of the best product out there because of how simple, sturdy and workable the ironing board. It is a space saver, maneuverable, and convenient to any position. Also, the performance alone can justify the extra costs for modifications and accessories.

Regardless of its downside, it is a sound investment with assured quality, flexibility, and durability that can last for years.

Pros

Cons

  • Sturdy and durable
  • High-quality materials
  • Flexible with swivel range of 180 degrees
  • It can be locked in any position
  • It is too heavy
  • It requires strong end connection to support the weight
  • No iron holder
  • No wall cover included

4. Life Style OSUM-01 Compact Wall Mounted Ironing Center

Life Style products are quite simple and easy to mount to the wall. OSUM-01 is a foldable wall mounted ironing board which takes up little space but can extend to a full board size. The material used for the hinges is zinc alloy. It is quite sturdy and stable while ironing your clothes.

Dimensions
Ironing Board35″ L x 12″ W
When Folded26″ H x 12.5″ W x 4 1/2″ D
Weight24 pounds

There is also an iron rest and clothe rack included in the product for conveniences. Meanwhile, the ironing board is a ventilated steel mesh surface which good for distributing the heat evenly.

Also, the board can swivel around 180 degrees and can be locked in any position. The board cover is a padded cover and very durable.

Installation

Allocate space with an electrical source and at least with a wall clearance of 55″. Then locate the stud and drill holes based on the wall mounting metal template of the product.

After installing the wall plate mount, place the ironing board and firmly press down until the self-lock activates.  Lastly, fit the lock screw into the top screw of the wall plate.

The problem with this product is the wall cover. The material used is a heavy duty detachable fabric that might not suit the taste of other people. The unit is one of the easiest to install and does not demand too much work.

It is also easy to unmount and to relocate the unit to another location. But overall, I highly recommend OSUM-01 because there are too many positive features about it.

Pros

Cons

  • Space saving design
  • Portability – easy to install and to unmount
  • It includes iron rest and clothes rack
  • Ventilated steel board with swivel
  • Fabric wall cover

3. Household Essentials 18100-1 Stow Away In-Wall Ironing Board Cabinet with Built-in Ironing Board

My third pick is the 18100-1 Stow Away by Household Essentials. The design of this wall mounted ironing board is quite simple but has amazing features. The cabinet has two built-shelves where you can store all of your ironing gears.

The top left corner of the cabinet has a heat-resistant metal panel to rest the iron. There is also a hook at the door where you can hang clothes.

The dimensions of the cabinet and the board are listed below.

Dimensions
Cabinet 47.9″ H x 15.9″ W x 7.8″ D
Top Shelf12″ H x 13.25″ W x 4.375″ D
Bottom Shelf16″ H x 13.25″ W x 3.5″ D
Ironing Board41″ L x 11.75″ W
Total Weight57 pounds

The door is available with a pre-finished or unfinished surface. The material used for the door is an oak. For the board, the material used is a low-density fiberboard or pressboard. Even though the material is quite sturdy, a hard press is not applicable.

Another downside is the material used in the inner cabinets. It is made of medium-density fiberboard and covered with vinyl. But for me, the winning points of this product are its features and capabilities.

The ironing board is not only movable upward and downward but also capable of horizontal movement. The board can move around 180 degrees which good for right and left-handed people. The elevation of the board can also be easily adjusted up to 2″.

Installation

Make sure to allocate a space with an outlet and sufficient clearance. There should be a clearance of 45″ in front of the board and 66″ across on the center for the 180 degrees rotation.

Identify the location of 16″ on center wall studs for anchorage. The recommended height to the bottom of the cabinet is at least 25″ off the floor. The dimensions of the rough cut are 14.25″ width and 46.25″ height.

Always double check your measurement before cutting and follow the manufacturer’s installation guide properly. Install the door hinges either to the right or left depending on what suits the user.

Then install the hook in the upper corner of the door and opposite of the door hinges. There should be at least a clear distance of 2″ so the hook won’t interfere with the ironing board or the cabinet frame.

Lift the cabinet and anchor it to the wall studs by placing screws through the sides and finally attached the cabinet door.

Regardless of the downside, substandard connections can be replaced or modified by using better components. But the design and features of the product are worthy of its price. For me, it is still a good product, especially for functionality and flexibility

Pros

Cons

  • Easy to Install
  • Flexible board movement – can swivel and adjustable elevation
  • It has extra storage (two shelves)
  • It can match the decor at home as a cabinet
  • Plastic hinges and screws are substandard
  • It might require modification
  • Pricey in comparison to the materials used
  • Low-density fiberboard

2. Built-in Ironing Board Cabinet Raw Wood, Iron Storage, Hide Away, Stow, Fold-Away

North Texas Woodcrafters is the manufacturer of this wonderful product and quality tested for almost 30 years. It is a beautiful and sturdy wall-mounted ironing board cabinet that can be installed anywhere or recessed between studs. The material used for the mainframe is birch plywood while the door and panels are medium-density fiberboards.

Dimensions
Cabinet42-1/2″ H x 13″ W x 5″ D
Board38″ L x 11-7/8” W
Protrude6.5″
Weight33 pounds

It has three shelves where you can store your ironing gears. Also, you can also order the cabinet unfinished so you can match the decor in the room.

The only downside of the product is it does not swivel. The board is not removable which also means that you can’t put an additional cover.

The main reason that it does not swivel is that the designers want sturdiness while maintaining its affordability.

Installation

It can be mounted on the wall anywhere or recessed between studs. It can be fitted with 16″ stud when recessed. The dimension of the rough cut is 42 5/8″H x 13 1/8″W x 5 3/4″ D.

The door hinges can be installed either on the right or left side depending on the user. Lift the cabinet and anchor it to the wall studs by placing screws through the sides and finally attached the cabinet door.

The overall design and quality have skyrocketed North Texas Woodcrafters to this list. Their product is known for easy to use, durability and affordability. Even if the board can’t swivel, the sturdiness of the board can justify the loss of flexibility.

If you want to save some money, you can invest in this product with tested quality, extra space for gears, and good overall performance.

Pros

Cons

  • Affordable
  • Durability
  • It has extra storage (three shelves)
  • Easy to Install and to use
  • It does not swivel
  • No iron holder
  • Board is not removable

1. Iron-A-Way Handi-Press Surface/Wall Mount Ironing Board Center (NE-242)

The NE-242 is one of the traditional models of the Iron-A-Way. It is one of the manufacturer’s basic models with limited features in comparison to their latest release. The material used for the cabinet and door is a birch veneer.

The ironing board is ventilated steel with padded cover.  Meanwhile, the board can only move upward and downward motion. But the board can be converted with a swivel feature since the cabinet size is universal.

Dimensions
Cabinet (exterior)47-7/8″ L x 15″ W x  3″ D
Ironing Board42″ L x 11-7/8” W
Weight40 pounds

The NE-242 is a surface mount and non-electrical unit of the Iron-A-Way. The installation of the unit is easy since it does not require any cutting and can be mounted anywhere. It is a perfect product for areas where recess mounting is not applicable.

Installation

A clearance of 16″ from the side of the cabinet is necessary for the door to open 180 degrees. It is also recommended to template the desired height for ease of positioning. After locating the wall stud, pre-drill a pilot hole as a guide for mounting the unit. Then start determining the mounting screw location based on your desired position.

Make sure that the mounting screw location is near the center and anchored within the stud. Then partially start mounting the cabinet and fit the upper mounting screw to position it properly. Then fully insert all the screw to mount the unit.

The NE-242 is the basic and cheapest model under Iron-A-Way.  Even though the unit is outdated, its performance is realistic in comparison with the manufacturer’s advertisement.

Also, it is a good investment to start with because of ease of installation and applicability. But if you have a budget around $300 to $500, the latest electronic models of the manufacturer is a better deal included with various features for conveniences.

Pros

Cons

  • Easy to install
  • Can be installed almost everywhere
  • Ventilated steel board
  • Can be upgraded by adding accessories
  • No shelves and limited storage space
  • No iron rest and storage
  • Swivel (optional)

Wall Mounted Ironing Board: A Buyer’s Guide

In a tight competition for mounted ironing boards, it might become confusing since you don’t want to have any regrets about the brand you chose. That is why I have provided a list of the five best wall mounted ironing board brands.

But we must take an extra mile and conduct proper due diligence to safeguard our investment.  Here is a list of things you should put into consideration before you finalized your decision.

  1. Background of the Manufacturer

Well, it all come downs to the three major factors such as the quality control of the work assembly, the quality of the materials used, and the design of the mounted ironing board. Just make sure to read the reviews, company website, product’s information, and the manufacturer’s guarantee for reference.

Also, try to fully understand the coverage of the manufacturer’s warranty since it will help you down the line. Just make sure to contact the manufacturer to replace any defective parts. There is a one-year or three-years manufacturer’s warranty coverage for parts depending on the manufacturer.

  1. The history of the distributor

Major manufacturers tapped external distributors to expand their connection and to lessen the cost of the distribution. The problem with external distributors is that they tend to mishandle the product which can result in defects. Even if the manufacturer’s quality assurance adhere to the industry standard, there are a lot of things that can happen after the products left the factory.

As a smart consumer, check if the distributor has a good history with a guarantee of delivering your product in mint condition. Also, take some time to read their return policy before placing any order. It is to determine the support capabilities and responsibilities of the distributor.

  1. Space and Specification

First, determine the adequate space where you can put the unit. I have provided in the list the specification of each of the product for reference. Also, check the applicability of the mode of installation of each product in your place.

Always put into consideration the clearances, required rough cutting, and hardware involved in the installation.

  1. Features

As mentioned before, the listed products have different features. As of now, there are new models with electrical devices involved. Therefore, you have two things to consider which are the additional installation of the electrical fixtures and the cost.

Also, it is not wise to buy a product with features you can’t use. So make sure that you can fully utilize the product that you want to buy.

  1. Budget

The average cost of the mounted ironing board is around $125 up to $500. Non-electronic units have a price range of $125 to $300. On the other end, products with additional electrical features cost around $300 to $500.

Make sure to stick with your budget and consider other factors to your decision. Factors such as installation and maintenance cost are crucial for finding the right product for you.

I just listed few things to put into consideration in your decision making. But if you are still unsure, try to read some testimonials or reviews from other users. There is no perfect product out there.

Just make sure to equip yourself with the knowledge to determine the good and bad about the product. Even though there are negative factors, it is still important to weigh in all the positive features of the product. If the positives can justify the cost, it is most likely a secured investment.
